Spa Jáchymov (Jáchymov)

The first radon spa in the world.

The West Bohemian spa town of Jáchymov is situated in a deep wooded valley in the foothills of the Krušné Mountains. This rugged landscape provides breathtaking views at any time of year. At the beginning of the 20th century a rich supply of radon was found in the former silver mines which lead to the foundation of the spa. The treatments on offer here are associated with discoveries made by Marie Curie and one of the springs is named after her.

Natural curative resources, indications

The radon springs are used to treat patients with infections and degenerative diseases of the motor neuron system as well as for treating people who have recently undergone an operation or suffered an injury. Diabetes and nervous disorders are also treated here.

Free time activities

In the town and surrounding area there are tennis courts, a bowling alley, fitness centers, downhill and cross-country skiing and hiking and cycling trails into the Krušné Mountains. Tourists can also visit the local tourist sights such as the Royal Mint (Museum of mining and coin production) and attend a concert in the All Saints Church and services and concerts in the Church of St Joachim.
